He had some experiences having narrow escapes.
On the war, he was called into the armed forces and served overseas, but was discharged by T.B. His unit was wiped out soon after that.

After the war, having a serious illness, he spent his time in pleasure at amusement districts with a medical corset. With a terrible pain, he once asked a veterinarian to bring strychnine to drink, but gave up.

Such experiences gave his works flexible toughness full of humor.

Finally, he completely recovered from his illness and lived to be 92.
