In 1978, Akira Toriyama made his debut as a manga artist 32 years after Osamu Tezuka’s debut.
Dr. Slump in 1980-84 was adapted into TV program and launched Akira Toriyama’s career. His next hit “Dragon Ball” in 1984-95 won a great success to expect public that Akira Toriyama might be a second Osamu Tezuka.

The storyline of his works are enough simple and clear for anybody to understand.
In reality, it reminds us of one-time mangas before Osamu Tezuka appeared. We could say that he puts his heart and soul into “entertainment” more than Osamu Tezuka.

Aside from Osamu Tezuka's Astro boy, he was much impressed by early movies of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee.
“Dragon Ball” was named after the movie "Enter the Dragon".
