The first prominent woman writer of modern times and created stories and diaries with fresh sensibilities until her death at the age of 24.
She had lived in hardship and poverty half her life after her father and brother passed away, but ironically her portrait appeared on the front of the Japanese 5000-yen note, the second largest note in Japan.
